Caught in the ACT 200

 
is a CD celebration of Canberra original music featuring 13 unsigned Canberra artists at their best.  
   
The CD journeyed in April 2000, to the NEMO Music Industry Conference in Boston USA, one of the premiere music conferences in the USA for music industry A&R and publishing reps' www.nemoboston.com  
 
This is the first time that Canberra bands have united in an effort to gain global recognition for their music. The bands have contributed most of the financing for the project with
'Revolution CD' in Canberra helping out with sponsorship.
 
 
Bands include Fetching Annie, Mr Fister, Impala, Takunda,
The rUg, Exhibit A, Simone and the Soothsayers,
Ruling Planet Pluto, Trouser Trouser and The Martins.
 
 
The Martins - Sleeper ( Senti )  
Three piece harmonies, strong hooks and memorable melodies
makes this Canberra five piece something special.
With the immanent release of their debut EP (This is Real),
the band is moving from strength to strength.

Quick 50 - Danger Girl (Cootes/Elliott/Karrigan/Tyler)  
Quick 50 formed in 1997 and have been performing regularly around Canberra for the past two and a half years.
Citing influences such as The Beatles, Big Star, The Posies and Canada's Sloan, the band has just released its debut album "Live In Japan"

The rUg - Faith (Fernandez)  
After 4 years playing around the Canberra and Sydney area , The rUg has maintained a strong and loyal following and scored airplay on JJJ, FM104.7 and TODAY FM in Sydney. Their second EP simply titled "The rUg" shows a mix of styles ranging from catchy pop/rock to 'Alternative Country' in the "Wilco" mould.

  Trouser Trouser - Sunday (Trouser Trouser)  
  Trouser trouser are a four piece ensemble, accompanied by guitar, drums, bass and piano. The group shares vocal duties in a style akin to "Gomez" or "The Band". Other influences include "Split Enz" and "Stereolab". TT's material deals largely with the themes of love, loss and disinterest.

  Mr Fistar - Busting through your Due (Mr Fistar)  
  Mr Fistar have a unique Australian flavour and retain honesty and freshness in their sound. Riff oriented, beat driven music that combines the raw sound of solid guitar with a dance/crossover drum style. Add a tight bottom end bass and you've got the dynamics of Mr Fistar. Debut CD "Trough Lolly" out soon

  Jacqui Seczawa - Vague (P Clark & J Seczawa)  
  With a 3 octave range, singer songwriter Jacqui Seczawa has been performing since the age of four. Enjoying all styles of music her passion lies within both commercial pop sand the rich, traditionally black sounds of R&B, she has performed in LA and London. "Vague" is taken from her album "Vision".

  Exhibit A - This Aint No Dance Song (R.G Thornhill)  
  Exhibit A are a true example of whats good in music, combining fine melody with great harmonies lets them write and play in a style of music that cuts across all styles.  Catch their new album out in 2000.

  Simone & The Soothsayers - Venus (S Penkethman)  
  An all woman three piece that formed in Canberra in late '98. Since then they've developed a set of powerful original pop songs that could be described as gothic folk rock. Their song "Venus" is a lighter moment celebrating the fine line between inspiration and jealousy.

  Ruling Planet Pluto - Integrate Yourself (A Clarke)  
  A strong melodic three piece which combines the traditional songwriting skill of Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, with the modern sound of British popstars like Stereolab, Blur, Radiohead yet still have managed to develop their own unique identity.

  Adonais - Amyl Queen (Adonais)  
  An atmospheric rock band from Canberra, Adonais released their debut EP "Again Until Then" in May 1999 and won the ACT final of the National Campus Band Competition the same year. With ethereal vocal of  Rebecca Sheather and a mood flowing between the introspective and melancholy, the EP has recieved favourable media reviews with one publication declaring the EP one of  the best local releases for 1999.

  Takunda - Less Themselves (s Imrie & D Lloyd)  
  A powerhouse young alternative rock band from Queanbeyan, Takunda have won a stack of band competition awards and been performing in and around the Canberra region for the past three years. They are looking to do furtherrecording in 2000 and preparing to release their debut CD.
